What is your favourite sport?  No matter whether you like golf, tennis, football or some other sport, you might feel the urge to have a flutter or two every now and then.  Whether you are a regular or you only get into sports betting when the Grand National is on, you can easily place whatever bets you like online when the time comes.

In fact sports betting online can sometimes be easier than going into a regular betting shop.  Someone who has never visited a betting shop before might be a bit confused as to what they should be doing.  In addition to this it can be a bit intimidating at times if you aren’t used to it!

Sports betting on the internet is very different though.  For starters you can read up about your favourite sport and get the latest insights, expert opinions and betting odds all within minutes.  It is quick and easy and there are lots of different sites that will give you the odds you want to see.

Every site will also have easy to read instructions on how to place your bet.  Make sure you read through them all and then decide how much you want to bet on the game, player or score line you are interested in.

All you have to do then is to wait and see whether you get lucky and your bet is successful.  If it is you will almost certainly be tempted to have another go at sports betting.

Before you sit down to play that next Texas Hold’em game, whether it’s a tournament or online poker, be sure you have your thoughts straight and a clear head.  The things that can harm your poker game the fastest are a bad attitude, mental distractions, intoxication, or anger.  Also, playing spitefully or to get revenge on someone are bad strategies.  Keeping your mind in the game and your focus clear is the best thing you can do to succeed at a hand of poker.

Beyond a generally good state of mind, there are other factors that can improve (or harm) your Texas Hold’em approach.  The first tip may seem to be obvious, but it shouldn’t be taken for granted: concentrate on the game! Always pay attention to the other players’ actions, both when playing virtual poker and in person.  Watch the cards that come down, watch the amounts being bet, and watch for hesitation or overly aggressive behaviours.  A large part of poker success is how you read the game and your opponents.

Also, be economical about how many hands of poker you play.  Buying into too many hands will stretch your pot too thin, while sitting out too long makes you look distracted or weak.  Never bluff just for fun; always think through how aggressive you will be and how you will draw other players’ bets.

A general cognisance of the game leads to success in both virtual and live tournament play when it comes to Texas Hold’em.

The place to be last week was undoubtedly Edinburgh, not just because it is a beautiful city with hundreds of attractions, but because it was the venue of the UKIPT and it certainly attracted a huge crowd for this leg of the event.

There were 401 players in total, which made for a £200,500 prize pool that paid out the last 56 players. So when it came down to the final table action, which as you would expect, was dominated by UK players, the final duel found none of them left, only Mantas Puidokas of Lithuania and the eventual winner Nick Abou Risk the Canadian. Risk ultimately won the poker tournament and took home £50,000 to go with his trophy, as well as a seat into the UKIPT Grand Final, which is also known as the EPT London that is coming up on September 29th 2010.

Ireland is well positioned to take advantage of the wave of legal online gambling about to sweep through Europe and the US and many pundits are asking the question, “will Ireland take advantage of this opportunity and grab some taxes from this lucrative online pastime”?

There is no doubt that the liberalisation the potentially lucrative US online gambling market is now firmly on the agenda. In Europe, too, there is a rush to legalise online gambling in order to help governments pay down their deficits. If Ireland plays its cards right, could its “smart economy” strategy benefit from these twin developments? Time will, of course, tell and we would be surprised if the Irish did not take advantage of this situation.
