Football betting is now the biggest gambling sector in the UK. Unlike in the days of the Football Pools, betting on football matches is no longer confined to predicting the outcome. Betting now includes endless permutations of game play, including which player will score the first goal, how many goals will be scored in total, and even whether or not a hat trick will occur during the match.
To enjoy football betting to the full, it is essential to familiarise yourself with the mechanics of betting, and also to follow sensible money-management rules:
It is important to set a budget for football gambling, and not to exceed it. Ensure your budget is easily affordable, and does not infringe on monies needed for essential living costs. If you are successful enough, it is wise to withdraw your original stake money, and aim to gamble ‘for free’, just using your winnings. Additionally, Set a maximum betting limit for any one individual game.
Do your research. Factors affecting the outcome of a match include whether teams are playing at home or away, whether any team members are absent due to injury or discipline issues, and the results history between the two teams that are to face each other.
Find out how important a match is to the team you are considering betting on. A team that does not need to win a particular game in the context of a competition may rest their better players, and take it easy on the day.
One of the best times to place a bet is in live play, when a good team has just conceded a goal, and is losing. The odds will improve, and the team are still more likely than not to win.
Bookies often offer free bets to new customers. Examples include Stan James free bets, which are a regular promotional feature.

The game of snooker was derived from the much older game of billiards, which was developed in the fourteenth century. The modern game of snooker dates back to the nineteenth century, to the days of the Raj. Officers used to play a derivative of pool by using pink, blue, green, brown and yellow balls as well as the traditional black and red balls. The actual term ‘snooker’ was initiated by a visiting officer who pointed out that first year cadets at the Woolwich Academy were commonly known as ‘snookers’ and when countless officers missed their shots on the game table the young officer called out, ‘why you’re a regular snooker.’
The game was introduced to the UK from India by the late nineteenth century and soon gained mass appeal. People who had formerly been gambling on other games soon started to take up snooker betting as a form of entertainment. Two gentlemen who did much to bring the game out of the Pall Mall Gentlemen’s clubs and to the more ordinary Working Men’s Clubs were the Davis brothers in the 1920s. Joe Davis achieved the first 147 break in 1957.
Snooker has since evolved into a popular pastime and a pool table has become a popular fixture in most pubs and social clubs as well as specialist Snooker Halls. The TV programme ‘Pot Black’ further publicised the game, especially with the introduction of colour TV in the 1970s. A whole host of snooker stars became household stars, including Ray Reardon and Dennis Taylor. Many people today supplement their enjoyment of the game by taking part in snooker betting.

Premier League betting is a great way to feel closer to the action. Betting is also a fun way to spend some time, with a view to possibly making some money too. Since betting is not a free activity, it is a good idea to invest a little thought in managing your money if you intend to bet in more than a casual capacity.
Starting a second bank account just for your betting funds is a good idea. This helps you keep your betting in check, and stops you from getting too carried away digging into savings. Set aside a certain amount that you can afford to lose and use it to gamble on football matches. This is very helpful for a beginner in particular as it helps them to see exactly how they’ve done in their predictions over time. Bank statements for that account will show exactly how things have gone.
Realise that betting is a game of chance, so there are probably going to be days when you make losses. When losses happen, remember that betting is also about the long-term results. Don’t be tempted to try to ‘win back’ your losses by taking out hasty bets on the same day. Football matches go on every week, so there are always plenty of chances later on. As long as you stick to the amount of money you have decided to invest in betting, you can enjoy betting without worrying about ever losing too much.
