OK It’s in Canada but will this be followed by many other stations taking up the challenge of televising online poker tourneys? The new network is targeting the Canadian market and is set to launch early next month featuring programming from the last three years alongside original content and features, so we will be able to see some of the great tournaments of yesteryear. It is estimated that there are 3.5 million poker players in Canada and the network will allow them to watch streaming programmes and also choose from archived content to view on demand.

Televising poker tournaments is not new but looking through some interesting archives will prove to be a hit with most online poker players. It is planned that the broadcasts will feature action from the Stampede Classic in Calgary, classic heads-up matches between Brad ‘Yukon’ Booth and Huckleberry Seed from the Canadian Open Poker Championships. The network is also planning to feature documentary programming showcasing the Canadian Poker Tour’s Invitational Finals in the Dominican Republic and the 2007 Stampede Classic. Online poker players just cannot wait!

Many of the big guns in the poker world are heading to the sunshine of the Algarve for the € 5,300 Villamoura leg of the European Poker Tournament which runs there until the 22nd November 2009. This is the first time that an EPT has been held in Portugal and the pros are really looking forward to taking in the area, when they are not committed to the tables of course.

Some of the names of those who have seats at the tournament are; Peter Eastgate, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Arnaud Mattern, Luca Pagano, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Jan Heitmann, Rino Mathis and George Danzer. The locals are not to be left out either with Henrique Pinho, Luis Medina and Nuno Coelho taking part; it should be a good poker tournament!

Most would agree that this has been quite an interesting year as far as the selection process goes for the Poker Hall of Fame. For the first time fans were allowed to nominate their favourite players. Tom Dwan was one of the top 10 players nominated, along with some other poker greats including Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Mike Sexton, Tom McEvoy and Barry Greenstein.

Nobody but Mike Sexton made it into the Hall this year which is very interesting because most of Sexton’s accomplishments rest as a promoter instead of a player, but as many will tell you his playing career was impressive too. Sexton was the only one who was able to get 75% of the media and living Hall member vote. Sexton’s playing accomplishments include a total of 46 WSOP cashes to go along with $3.7 million in career winnings, that’s impressive!
