OK It’s in Canada but will this be followed by many other stations taking up the challenge of televising online poker tourneys? The new network is targeting the Canadian market and is set to launch early next month featuring programming from the last three years alongside original content and features, so we will be able to see some of the great tournaments of yesteryear. It is estimated that there are 3.5 million poker players in Canada and the network will allow them to watch streaming programmes and also choose from archived content to view on demand.
Televising poker tournaments is not new but looking through some interesting archives will prove to be a hit with most online poker players. It is planned that the broadcasts will feature action from the Stampede Classic in Calgary, classic heads-up matches between Brad ‘Yukon’ Booth and Huckleberry Seed from the Canadian Open Poker Championships. The network is also planning to feature documentary programming showcasing the Canadian Poker Tour’s Invitational Finals in the Dominican Republic and the 2007 Stampede Classic. Online poker players just cannot wait!
