June 1 will perhaps come down in online poker history as the day the online poker population came together in protest of the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, or UIGEA. The law has been unpopular in the ‘States particularly with poker players but with members of the public as wee as they consider it is a breach of a person’s fundamental liberty to choose, something precious in America.
A reprieve was put in place to extend the date for the implementation of the act to June the first 2010 As\this date looms large online poker players have been converging in forums and discussing ways to show their protest of the UIGEA implementation.
Online poker is a huge pastime all over the world including residents of the United States and while they have been enjoying this opportunity to enjoy their games online, the implementation of this Act will definitely make it harder for them to play poker that is unless they can find other means to get online and play without being detected.
